Your camera

That looks pretty.

I like cameras that have a nice meaty area on the side there to hold. I also prefer my camera to have a little weight to it.

Incidentally I also say the same about cell-phones.

right now I’ve a Kodak LS753 which I’ve been using for about 2 years. now am thinking of getting Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50S.

Currently:

Fuji S3 Pro
18-70mm Nikon
80-200mm f2.8 Nikon
50mm prime f1.8 Nikon
Opteka Fisheye attachment
Reverse macro adapter
22gb of CF cards (8gb 8gb 4gb 2gb)
SB800 Speedlight Nikon Flash

Video:
Canon HV20
Canon WD-43H Wide angle 0.7
Miranda 20w Video Light
Extra Battery pack

Carry:
Lowepro 200 (something or other)

Which is better? Nikon or Canon?

Fuji

Canon for video tho.

I think in the dslr segment, Nikon has an edge over Canon

I prefer Canon. But if you’re going for a DSLR, I don’t know that you can go wrong with either.

I’m getting my Nikon D40 this month  . Anyone got any experience with it? It seems like a lovely camera.

Also a Canon person here.
Nikon & Canon are the two powerhouses, and when it comes down to it they are about equal. It all depends on which one feels better in your hands and fits your style. Canon is usually the first with new tech, and has a larger variety of accesorries and lenses.

Take a look at a sports game, when you see most of the pro shooters using “white” lenses, you know they are Canon.

Canon is definitely the choice for post sport photojournalists, I think.

Someone once told me it had to do with the autofocus being faster on Canon than Nikon (something about the mechanism being on the lens instead of in the camera… or maybe vice versa). I’m not sure if I am remembering that accurately, but I think it’s the main reason sports shooters switched to Canon in the 90s.

Not sure how they stack up today, but I imagine Nikon has closed the gap.

all the Canon users will say “Nikon sux!” and all the Nikon users will say “Canon sux” Personally I use Canon, but I don’t really think that either brand is particularly better than the other. If you wanted to be picky, you might say that Canon’s dSLR’s low light capability at high ISOs is maybe a bit better than Nikon’s (less noisy) - I doubt that will be true for very long as Nikon will improve their sensors… But I would say that really it’s better to just try out the different cameras and see which suits you best.

I recently bought my new mobile handset which is NOKIA N95, I love it. It has got 5mega pixel camera with video recorder and 2 GB of space… So its dual camera and phone both. 5mega is good enough for me as digital camera

I have Canon S3 IS and thinking to get EOS Digital Rebel XT

Go with the Rebel XTi, it’s the newer version and much better than the standard XT.

It certainly is an improvement, although if you can get a a supercheap deal on the XT, it’s still a great little camera and worth considering. You get less megapixels and lose the anti-dust mechanism and larger screen.

Yep.

I have the XTi as my back up camera “just in case”, but mostly have it for my wife to use so she stops ‘borrowing’ my 20D.

I was tempted to buy an XT from an associate who was selling his for $250. It’s almost worth it to “experiment” with (I want to turn one into an IR capabale camera)

$250?! At that price it’s almost worth having as a backup to your backup

Fujifilm FinePix S5600. I hope to be able to own an EOS 400D (Digital Rebel) in the near future.

I have

  1. Sony DSF 828 with add on lenses 8mp
  2. Sony R1 with add on lenses 10mp
    3 Canon G7 10 mp

Of the three my overall favorite is still camera No. 1 as it is great for Infra Red shots, I really enjoy playing with curves and producing some way out pictures with the original shots.
The R1 is a brilliant camera, but it doesn’t have the Infra red option which I feel was a serious mistake on Sony’s behalf.
The Canon is probably one of the best top of the range point and shoots available. (I use this mainly for carnivals when I’m in costume wanting to take pictures on the go.)

My personal wish list is the Pentax K10D which is a waterproof case, with waterproof lenses - I’m getting that next year I’m still undecided on the lenses I want.
